Ayrshire is known for the quality and quantity of its golf courses and draws aficionados from near and far to play some of the wonderful courses. Within a short drive there are around a dozen courses, both private and municipal. For the more serious golfer, famous courses such as Royal Troon, The Old Course at Prestwick (home of the Open Championship), Turnberry and Barassie Golf Club are nearby.
The Dalry Inn provides the accommodation and geographical base to reach all the courses of the area with ease, returning to the hotel for a hearty meal and relaxing drinks. With some courses it is perfectly possible to play two rounds in a day, a links course in the morning and a moorland course in the afternoon. Some of the courses around Largs have spectacular sea views to be enjoyed at all times of the year.
At nearby Largs, the golf professionals at the Inverclyde National Sports Centre offer individual and group lessons. These must be booked in advance.
